The orange rocket barberry is a vibrant plant with a wide range of bright colors, depending on the time of the year. The new growth of this plant comes with vibrant orange color, and when summer finally sets in, it is seen with vivid green color, and deep autumn brings entirely different purple-red leaves.

Orange rocket barberry is a very tolerant plant. It can tolerate bad soil, pollution, and intense drought; this is one hardy plant here! But how tall does orange rocket barberry grow?

Orange rocket barberry doesn’t grow too tall, the plant only grows 4 feet tall and two feet wide, making it even suitable for small yards.

How Tall Does Orange Rocket Barberry Grow?

Orang rocket barberry only grows to a height of 4 feet and 2 ft wide, so you should ensure that you take good care of the orange rocket barberry plant. To get the most out of your orange rocket barberry plant, ensure that you plant it in full sun for about 6 hours a day and then shade sometimes. 

After you plant, ensure that you water deeply about twice a week so the roots can grow properly. The reason is only that the plant has not been established fully; once the orange rocket barberry gets established, you can now reduce the amount of watering because it is drought tolerant. 

In case of extreme drought, you can apply about 2-3 inches of mulch so it would help protect your roots during extreme drought, and then there is no need for you to prune these orange barberry bushes and shrubs, but if you feel like you would prefer the bush pruned, then it should be done in winter. 

You shouldn’t use excess fertilizers because nature has already made these plants hardy as they are resistant to heat, cold tolerant, pests and diseases, and salt tolerant. Also, you shouldn’t water too much because if you eventually do, it might lead to root rot due to the excess water stuck in the stem. 

Is Barberry Toxic to Dogs?

It would help if you weren’t feeding your dogs orange rocket barberry because it is toxic for dogs. Whether fresh or dried varieties, if your dog or pet eats the plants, it can trigger a toxic milk effect in them.

The most common symptoms your dog would give off if it has eaten the orange rocket barberry are vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pains, and you should rush your pet to a vet doctor immediately. 

What Should I Plant in Front of Barberry?

There are two barberry varieties; one is reddish, and the other is orange-ish or yellowish. Below are great companion plants for orange rocket barberry:

  • Boxwood shrubs: The boxwood shrubs are another excellent complement for the orange rocket barberry plant. The beautiful dark, small and glossy green leaves of the boxwood shrubs contrast nicely with the orange barberry’s thorny nature, making them a perfect fit

Is Orange Rocket Barberry Deer Resistant?

Orange rocket barberry plants are deer resistant and also resistant to many other animals due to their thorny nature.

Since you would not be having severe attacks from animals, and they are also unique plants with high drought resistance, this would be an excellent choice of a houseplant for your home. 

If you have kids or pets, ensure that you keep this plant in a location that they cannot quickly rich into for their safety.

Planting and maintaining a barberry bush is easy once you have gotten the hang of it. After planting and adequate watering for the first months after it has been planted, you can now take care of it by ensuring that it gets at least 6 hours of full sunlight daily.
