1. Clean Up The Oil

With a paper towel, blot up as much grease as possible as soon as you notice the oil or grease spill.

Do this in a tapping motion to prevent the oil from spreading over a larger area.

This should be done the right way, particularly if you have stone flooring because oil can darken stone if it is left to sink in and dry.

2. Sprinkle Clay Cat Litter

Pour a generous amount of cat litter over the grease spill and let it sit for 1 hour.

Once the hour’s up, sweep the cat litter into a dustpan and dispose properly or vacuum it up; the area should be less greasy afterward.

Cat litter is extremely absorbent, making it perfect for soaking up spilled oil, but you can also use baking soda if you don’t have cat litter.

After removing the cat litter or baking soda from the floor, rinse the area with water and dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth.

3. Using Vinegar And Water

Combine equal parts of vinegar and water and use it to clean the grease and grime from the floor. You can pour the mixture into a spray bottle to make it easier to apply.

Spray the vinegar mixture on the floor and scrub the floor with a nylon brush to get your grout lines sparkling clean.

Do not use undiluted vinegar on stone surfaces or grout lines as it is extremely acidic and can cause damage.

If your kitchen has hardwood flooring, a mixture of vinegar, liquid dish soap, baking soda, and warm water can be used to remove grease and oil spills.

Simply mix 1⁄8 cup of white vinegar, 1/8 cup of baking soda with 16 cups of warm water in a bucket. Combine thoroughly and clean the area with a mop.

If your hardwood floor is waxed, use a small amount of vinegar or omit it altogether as it can damage the wax.

4. Make A Stain-Lifting Putty

If the stain or grease still persists after implementing any of the cleaning procedures, you can make a paste to lift the stain.

Combine 1⁄4 cup of acetone and 1/4 cup of baking soda in a small plastic cup or container.

Stir them together and keep adding the ingredients in small quantities until you achieve a pancake batter consistency.

Apply the paste onto the stain and cover it with plastic wrap.

Allow the stain-lifting putty to sit for 24 hours before scraping it off with a plastic putty knife, spatula, or some other utensil but make sure it isn’t metal.

This method works great for polished stones like granite, quartzite, and marble.

5. Using Mineral Spirits

If the spell wasn’t cleaned up immediately, it occurred, and it has had the chance to set into the kitchen floor, you can lift it with mineral spirits.

Before handling mineral spirit, ensure to put on protective wear like gloves and eye goggles.

Dampened a cotton ball or the corner of a rag with mineral spirits and buffed it onto the stain, and it should be lifted.

This method is best for floorings such as hardwood floors, engineered hardwood, and even laminate.

But it is recommended to spot test an inconspicuous area like a closet or under a piece of furniture with the mineral spirit as they can be a little strong and remove the finish on some flooring.

Observe for signs of the finish coming off by wiping the floor with a cotton ball or rag; if the finish does not come off, then you can go ahead and use the mineral spirit on the stains.

When working with mineral spirit, ensure the area is well ventilated as the fumes can make you dizzy or irritate your throat. You can also set up a fan if the room is not well-ventilated.

Conclusion

Grease and oil splatters are some of the most common stains on kitchen floors; they can make the area look dirty and the floor slippery.

You can use any of the methods mentioned above to get rid of grease on kitchen floor.
